By the same token, let's forget about 'localhost' working especially if the localhost is one flavor of OS and the remotely hosted site is of another.

When you transferred all files from localhost to server did *ALL* of them get there?  Did you change owership/permissions on all?

Think your version of 2 now caches (MUC).  Have you purged all caches on the server?

Have you turned on debugging on the Moodle site to see what Moodle complains about? (if anything)  You might have to copy the debug lines from config-dist.php into your active config.php file for Moodle to get debug turned on.  Comment those lines out later after you've resolved.
