If NTC Hosting offers a package that provides ssh shell and installs git in those packages, then one could use git.  Right now, the actual acquistion of moodle code via git is 'outside' of moodle.  In other words, one has to issue a git command.

Wonder if git is under a license that would allow packaging with other apps, such as Moodle, as long as license, readme, credits are kept with the package.  Kaltura has a community edition (or used to) that packaged up all the 'dependencies' needed to make Kaltura run ... ffmpeg, etc.  Made the download of Kaltura large, but one didn't have to follow a 2 page doc on how to install and configure those dependencies and link them to kaltura.

Often thought that it would be great if the Moodle download included a bin directory with an executable git and the hidden .git and .gitignore for the version one is downloading already set and ready to use.  Of course, that would probably work only on dedicated VPS's and standalone Linux boxen.

'spirit of sharing', Ken
