Hi Derek,

Copying previous versions of documentation (especially CLI commands)requires little more attention as new users relaying on these documentations and expecting smooth follow and finish task for the identical environment which is Ubuntu server. Please check the following link. I am wondering how new users can know that Moodle 2.5's the latest + version name as it's been advertised as $ git clone -b MOODLE_24_STABLE git://git.moodle.org/moodle.git . So that is another barrier to figure out and start looking different sources to find out how to solve it.

http://docs.moodle.org/25/en/Installing_Moodle

Following information from http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Moodle_2.5_release_notes

  • Recommended minimum browser: Google Chrome 11, Firefox 4, Safari 5, Internet Explorer 8 (IE 10 required for drag and drop of files from outside the browser into Moodle)
  • Moodle upgrade: Moodle 2.2 or later (if upgrading from earlier versions, you must upgrade to 2.2.9 as a first step)
  • Minimum DB versions: PostgreSQL 8.3, MySQL 5.1.33, MariaDB 5.2, MSSQL 2005 or Oracle 10.2 (oci_native_moodle_package.sql needs to be executed before upgrade on Oracle servers)
  • Minimum PHP version: PHP 5.3.3
  • New PHP extension requirements: GD

and

information from http://docs.moodle.org/25/en/Installing_Moodle

  • PHP - The minimum version is currently 5.3.2. A number of extensions are required; see the PHP page for full details. Installation will halt at the environment check if any of the required extensions are missing.
  • A database. MySQL and PostgreSQL are the primary development database, the most comprehensively tested and have extensive documentation and support. Oracle and MSSQL are fully supported (note that optional plugins may be untested with these databases) but documentation and online help are not as comprehensive as MySQL/PostgreSQL. If in doubt use MySQL (more documentation) or PostgreSQL (better stability/performance). You will need the appropriate PHP extension (configured if need be) for your chosen database.
  • Minimum browser for accessing Moodle: Firefox 4, Internet Explorer 8, Safari 5, Google Chrome 11, Opera 9

To be honest I did not know that all users can edit the documentation! I was thinking that only approved developers can add/edit the documents. Thanks to Mary for that information so it was my lack of knowledge.

However I would like to express my appreciation to all contributors for their hard work and make a free software's quality much higher than paid softwares.
