Thank you for your suggestions.
The plugin in question is the Attendance module Dan Marsden took over from Artem Andreev this year.
It is listed as "release 2.5.2 for Moodle 2.5" so I doubt there would be any version conflicts or compatibility issues.
In regard to your second point, it may be indeed be a possibility the moodle upgrade did not complete successfully, but if so, there was no indication given that it did not. I will speak to you offline about that.
