Did say 'might have been'! ;) Thought we were talking about a move to another server environment then upgrading? or is one in a hurry? One could take the current setup, get that running and checked on the new environment. Then move upwards (the Moodle March).
If Moodle was installed via git, then one could 'march' the moodle right through each version in order, if that's what want. Could go from 2.2 to 2.3 to 2.4 to 2.5 to 2.6 with just a few git and php commands and depending upon size of the site, could be done in a matter of minutes at each step.
