mimetex 2.6 and hosting issues

hi

I went to upload moodle 2.6 to our existing host yesterday this morning I had an email about malicious executables namely mimetex.linux mimetex.freebsd mimetex.exe my web hosts automatically removed these 3 files. I saw a post with someone who couldn't get mimetex working possibly his webhost had done the same thing.

Another issue is our current hosting is using zeus as a web server, something they call legacy and will be no longer be offered after 2014.

we have the option of moving to a linux based apache server so i selected that, the only other issue was php-intl ( the php module for international language support. (is this essential?)  anyway we got a reply from support saying the hosting wouldn't be up to the job.

so now we are looking at hosting moodle ourselves on the college lan, we already have one webserver on the lan and as it happens a working moodle2.6 server all configured, It was mainly used to copy our existing 1.9 install into a 2.6 format, and to be fair to get me up to speed with moodle.

I think this isn't that unusual a set up however ideally i want to be able to use the moodle server both inside and outside the lan.  Any pointers would be greatfully received

regards

john
