Hi,
I know I shouldn't be complaining but our test upgrade from Moodle 2.5.2 to Moodle 2.6.2 took about only 20 minutes to upgrade. It could be be there isnt much major going on in the background during the upgrade, just wanted some sort of comfort that it is indeed possible.
Reasons to worry :
- All our previous upgrades took a couple of hours to finish i.e from 1.9 to 2.2 and then from 2.2 to 2.5.2
- If I remember correctly, all our previous upgrades had a lot of database structure migration (from 19 to 22, then 22 to 24 /25)and hence there was a big yellow progress bar on top of the page that would show the completion status, that was missing this time.
- we didn't copy over the live data folder onto the test server for the test 'dry-runs'. Could that be a reason ?
- When upgrading this time ,all of our custom plugins were not displayed under the Plugins Check page. I'm not sure if this happened in any of the previous upgrades.
Reasons not to worry :
- Last time around, the assignment module changed from assignment to assign and hence I believe Moodle took long to convert all the assignments to the new assign type, which was not the case this time.
To upgrade, I am taking a dump of our live database, and importing that onto our test server. I have an SVN branch which holds 2.6.2 + custom changes, add the old config.php back and then I go to the url where moodle sits i.e http://testmoodle.com/ and then perform the upgrade.
I am at the moment, not taking a backup of the live data folder as its too big (~ 1 TB) for my test upgrade.
Some stats :
Courses : ~3500 courses
Users : ~67300 users
Just want to know if anyone else had this (pleasant) surprise of upgrading from 2.5 to 2.6 recently.
