looking at the php.ini

I'm on Windows with IIS.

I'm looking at upgrading the php from 5.3 to 5.5. We have always manaully installed and configured in the past so planned to continue with that. However having had a look at the php.ini file it has changed.

There is a whole raft of globals GPCE&S and nothing quite as straight forward as 

Register_globals = Off

Magic quotes seem to have disappeared, but I'm worried they have turned into something else. 

And then there is a whole chunk about CGI which looks completely different.

Can anybody tell suggested settings for a standard Moodle on Windows for php5.5 or point me at a web site that might give guidance?
