Hi - kinda new to Moodle and Linux but here we are. Our current Moodle environment is Moodle 1.9.7+ on a Ubuntu 9.04 Server. Last time it was touched was 2008ish. Its time to upgrade.
In setting up a test environment with Ubuntu 9.04 I have found a lot of software is not available. MYSQL 5.0.75 for instance. The latest version of Mysql is 5.5.xx. From research the the best way to upgrade without losing any data is to virtualize Linux with incremental mysql version updates. Dumping and importing mysql along the way. I don't know if this makes any sense.
But if there is anyone out there who has any advise for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
