Another comment: an alternative is to leave moodle where is it and at document root of the domain place a autoforwarding 0 second wait index.html file that sends all visitors to site to /moodle.
Why? Like others have suggested already ... 1. the easiest thing to do 2. When client wants to look at the next highest version or have a sandbox implementation (a snapshot clone of production site) that implementation can be served out from another directory ... like 'sandbox' or 'dev'.
Only those that know of it's existence would navigate to it with browser.
