Upgrade failure wrecked my page layout

I'm a teacher, not a programmer. Hopefully someone can help me.  I have 3 courses that I spent a year putting together in Moodle 2.2.1, using the Afterburner theme.  My hosting company offered my an upgrade to 2.4.  I did back up the Moodle folder.  During the upgrade process I saw a message about UTF-8, but could not find enough info to do this myself. I tried to cancel the upgrade but it was too late. My pages failed to load. So I deleted my old Moodle folder and reloaded it from a backup. My data is there, but my page layout is trashed. The logo is missing from the top left, and I can't see half the content -- it's off the page (see screenshot). What I see is nothing but white on the left side of the page, the left column is near the right side, and just a piece of my content is visible.  I would gladly hire someone to fix this but don't know who to call.  I managed to do a clean install of 2.4 in another folder, but I don't know how to get my courses and data over to the new installation.  Can someone PLEASE HELP!
