Re: Cannot upgrade Moodle 3.2.1 to 3.5

And now I've resolved that little problem too. It was my own fault - because I'm testing on a test server first (not the production one) it, obviously, has a different name than the production one. So I was going through renaming the URL on each image. After reading up a bit about how the files are stored in Moodle (I believe the filenames are hashed for instance) I can see why it couldn't find the files anymore! All fixed now.

OK that's me all done. Thanks for all your help Ken. Regards Git, as I say I'm not particularly familiar with it. Can you sell me the reason to use it? smile

Purge Caches on server.  See if that clears the issue.

Would be nice to see what ... 'a bunch of PHP files with errors' looks like.

If images were in a true Moodle repository (file system) then one cannot use a direct url to them - db mdl_files table involved which really uses meta data for the images/files links.  Having said that, could be those images were uploaded to a directory not part of moodle and links to them were img src urls.

A query of mdl_files table for the humanly recognizable file name of these missing images might provide a clue.

'... sell me ...'!!!!   Hmmmm ...

Am not a sales type ... and the following isn't really an answer that you seek, but ...

How many steps do you have to go through to either acquire a minor update ... like 3.11.2 to 3.11.3 or a major upgrade like what you did in your hyperjump march of Moodle?  You don't have to answer that here in forums.

With git and some bash shell scripts for the specific purpose, a minor update such as above, requires just the 1 script and git ... there are no human moving parts ... git pulls in what it needs to update, removes files no longer needed, and modifies files that need it, etc.  That's core code ... not addons nor customizations of core code.  No ftp nor wget is used.

Plus ... using the cli scripts in admin/cli/ one can finish the update or upgrade.

Takes web service out of the loop.

If one adds lines in bash shell script to do a DB dump and tar ball the code just prior to pulling the trigger on an update/upgrade ....

One really has to try it to see for themselves! smile

Hy boys

I am trying to install moodle 3.11 and it throws this error:

The parent directory (C: \ inetpub) is not writable. The data directory (C: \ inetpub \ moodledata1) cannot be created by the installer.

Any idea how to fix ?? Thanks Charlie

I'm almost nothing about Windows but I'm surprised that that 'moodledata' is under inetpub. I thought that inetpub was the web served directory on Windows? In which case, that's the last place it should be.

Other than that, you need to change the permissions such that the web server user can write to the directory.

Multi-SCORM course grading problem

by Gerald Crumbley.

We have a course that has 4 modules. The modules are SCORMS built with Storyline360, with the quiz built into the SCORM file. The .zip file is set to require 80% to pass, and report to LMS as Pass/Failed.

In Moodle we have each module set to be passed with 80%, also. Each module has a weight of 25 (obviously) so the entire course is valued at 100. For some reason the modules are being graded before the student finishes the course. Below is from the Grade History (I am only showing one module).

How do we set Moodle so that a grade is not reported until ALL modules are passed?

How to make Storyline360 and Moodle work together?

We build our courses with Storyline360 and include the Quiz in the SCORM file requiring 80% to pass, and sending a pass/fail to the LMS. How do we set Moodle to grade this course correctly as it also has setting for passing % etc?

No, the site URL did not change, but I will still check out your suggestion since it is the only thing I know to check right now.

However, it seems like if that were the problem, newly uploaded files would be visible, since their link would not be broken. Also, the links to all the documents, photos, etc., are still working; you just cannot see and select anything in the "Content" box. This is driving me and the students nuts; they can't see that their assignment is uploaded either. Also, we can no longer drag-and-drop files. I could live with that, but everything else is a definite problem.

Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate it. Any other ideas?

You didn't say what the "mutli-step upgrade" route was.

Is Site administration > Server > Environment all green? Is Site administration > Server > HTTP: Use slash arguments ticked? Try the other way.

If I remember correctly, we upgraded from 3.5 to 3.6, then to 3.9, then to 3.11.

The server environment is all green.

The "Use slash arguments" is ticked. I unticked it and nothing changed, so I re-ticked it.

Thanks! Any other ideas?

OK, thanks, I'll see if I can figure that out. If the moderator does not move it maybe I can repost it in the correct forum.

Thanks again.

"Happy" to see that I'm not the only one with this issue. Hope instantly that this will be fixed in Moodle 4.0. Cross my fingers.
