Can you tell me a bit more about that?  Is there much possibility that it might cause some sort of problem that would force me to re-install moodle from scratch and then re-upload my courses?

I guess I don't know much about how the plugins interface with the basic moodle application.

- Which Linux distribution, version?

- What is the tutorial you followed?

- The error you've posted is somehow incoplete. Could you post a (detail) screen-shot?

- Usually there is a linke "More about this error". Where does it point?

Assignment and Resourses Pages Don't display

by Matt Halvorson.

After an Ubuntu upgrade I noticed I went to add a news topic but when I clicked add topic the normal form you fill out with the subject body etc. was there. It was just blank. I check other assignments and resources and they all have the same issue. I thought it may be a theme issue so I changed from the More theme to the clean theme (the only two on my site) but still nothing. I changed it back to More and looked at the html that was built. The source code ends at the menu with nothing below that would normally be the page contents. This is also the problem for the calendar and even if I try to add a URL to the course.

screenshot

The really odd thing is I can add a file by dragging and dropping it into the site but I can't edit it or add a file by using the add resource button. Everything is blank as in the above screenshot.

Someone suggested a roles issue so I tried to reset the roles in case something got messed up but page comes up blank after you select the role to edit too. I have (temporally) tried changing the permissions on all the Moodle files to 777 nothing has helped. So I now have restored a backup of the entire Moodle server before any of the updates or changes happened. Even after completely restoring the Ubuntu Server which also included the Moodle folder, moodledata folder and MySQL database) to the copy make just before I noticed the issues I am still have the issues. I haven't used Moodle in about 2 weeks since school ended. Everything was working the last week of school and nothing should have changed after that as I have been on vacation. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear it. Thanks!

Matt

This line does not reference debugging at all - so I would take it out.

Then delete the cache folders in your moodledata folder (not your moodle folder) and try reloading again...

Hi Howard,

I copied it to the tail end of config.php and I see no difference. I checked the web servers error log in cpanel manager and it is empty too.

Upload Problem

by Gerald Coffman.

We have Windows Server 2012 and a new installation of Moodle 2.9+.  When I open "Course Upload", the fields for "Course Format", "Appearance", "Files and Uploads", etc.  never open.  The cursor keeps spinning.  We do see fields under the "General" and "Description Headings."

Also, in the left menu we can't click on any of the items to show a sub-menu.  I can display the sub-menu if I search on, for example  "Users", and then click on "search Results - Browse List of Users."

Login using ssh to your site.

cd /pathtomoodlecode/admin/cli/

There is a CLI only script that will do what's needed:

called mysql_compressed_rows.php

Script for detection of row size problems in MySQL InnoDB tables.

By default InnoDB storage table is using legacy Antelope file format
which has major restriction on database row size.
Use this script to detect and fix database tables with potential data
overflow problems.

Options:
-i, --info            Show database information
-l, --list            List problematic tables
-f, --fix             Attempt to fix all tables (requires SUPER privilege)
-s, --showsql         Print SQL statements for fixing of tables
-h, --help            Print out this help

So to get info while in /pathto/moodlecode/admin/cli/ type:

php mysql_compressed_rows.php -i

To list tables with problems:

php mysql_compressed_rows.php -i

to fix tables that have problems:

php mysql_compressed_rows.php -f

I've had to use it recently when upgrading 2.6's to 2.7.8+ and it does work as advertised.   Matter of fact, I had attempted a git upgrade to a site which failed with a warning about the issue.   Without leaving the command line, executed the commands above to fix and then resumed the git upgrade without issue.

I turned on "Normal" but nothing showed up so I tried "show all reasonable php dbug messages" but still no errors are shown. Its almost as if it isn't calling for the rest of the page. Very weird. I decided to restore from a backup and it seems to be working from the backup so something changed without my knowledge. I will try the update again in a bit and see if I still have the same problem.

Ok So now I have restored from the backup and tested the backup. Everything is working fine. So I try to update to Moodle 2.9 again from 2.85. Everything goes as expected except now, no one can login. Even with the administrator account. Its just comes up with a blank white page. I am so confused.

Restore process is stuck on a specific question

I have traced the source of the problem to a question, but the question seems to be not quite a question, but a random call for a question.  Here is what I could find in the database by searching for the database question id as displayed in the error message

If I remote desktop into the VM where Moodle is hosted everything seems to work.  However, if I access Moodle from my office computer I have the problem where I cannot upload.

Had to reinstall moodle but I need to move my old course files into new moodle installation

by Rebe LeGoullon.

Hi all!

I installed Moodle 2.9 and everything was working out well. I had created users, created an assessment, and chosen specific settings for my course when I needed to change servers to an internet server. I updated the config files as directed, however afterwards I couldn't access my course and changing the config files back did not fix the issue. Afterwards I found out that going to an internet server wouldn't work out with the current state of my institution's network so I need to remain a localhost.

I ended up reinstalling Moodle with my old moodle files moved to a folder on my network drive. I tried placing my old files in the correct folders and that did not restore my old course, in fact I couldn't even access moodle through my localhost. I uninstalled and reinstalled moodle again and now I'm hoping it will be possible to put the files back in somehow, so at least I'll have the additional plugins I installed, the assessment, and the settings. It would be very frustrating to have to redo everything when I'm in a time crunch.

Hopefully someone will have an answer! Thank you!

Corrupted files after migration

by Gama CJ.

Dear All,

After the successful migration of two Moodle instances, in a 3rd one I am facing a corrupted files issue while downloading files from this moodle instance. I have performed some research in the forums and tried several things:

- Transfer of files from old instance to new using FT with binary transfer

- Compression of all moodle files (tar) before its transfer.

- Installation of a new instance (same version 2.6.11)

- Check of trailing white spaces in config.php.

And the result is always the same - I get file corruption errors. Looking at the files I see extra CR created. One important point - newly uploaded files do not have these issues.

Any hints on how to eventually fix this?

Thanks in advance

Gama
