Re: 3.2.2 upgrade

3.2.2 defaults to boost ... the server I was using brand new fresh install of everything ...

The server is development ... stock .. no students.   But that makes really no difference to me.

However, for you it might.   Got a dummy student account setup?   Set up a course using theme other than more ... put dummy student in the course using boost.   See for yourself.

See my posting on Server 2016, SQL 2016, PHP7.  It should help you solve it.

Again, interesting Ken.

So it appears that we might conclude that the problem seems to have something to do with Moodle 3.2 and above.  However, it doesn't seem theme related.  Also, it seems to occur in existing and brand new installs of Moodle 3.2.  It doesn't seem to be OS related because I am running CentOS on a VPS, and you are running (??? - ubuntu on a dedicated server.)  I am running php 5.6.29, and you are running php (??? 7).  I am running MySQL 5.6.34, and you are running (???).  I am running Safari on the Mac, and you are running (???).

Given the variety of environments where this error occurs, it appears to have something to do with Moodle 3.2.

Your thoughts?

Cloned live site to test 3.2.2 upgrade. Now there are redirection issues

by Andrew Oosterhoff.

Hey all,

I have successfully(meaning the site files, code and, database are intact) cloned a live site that has the OpenID/Office 365 plugin but when I try to login to the development site I keep getting redirected to my live site because of the plugin.  Is there a way I can forcibly login to one of my manual accounts without getting redirected?

Here are some things I've tried:

Manually going to https://site.domain.name/login/index.php however, this takes me to the live site.

Using vi from ssh and changed the index.php file and tried commenting some authentication redirects but couldn't find the code that was causing the issue.  (I have reverted uncommented out what I have tried so I don't need to fix this)

Using SSH/FTP renamed the Auth folder and Login Folder and copied new folders from a new download package but this just gives me a   internal error (I have since reverted back to the original naming of the folders and deleted the newly downloaded folders)

I tried going into the database and deleted the auth_oidc from config_plugins to see if that would allow me to loginto a manual account but that didn't work either.  ( This has been reverted back to the way it was as well)

I really have no idea what to try next aside from disabling the plugin from the live site and cloning to a new development site again.

Try checking and re-applying the file permissions in your Moodledata folder.

How many courses do you have?

so I should say that I am on a shared server running

linux 86_64

Apache 2.4.25

php  5.6.30

mysql 5.5.54

I assume you mean the browser you are using to access site so that would be Firefox on windows 10

Tried clean, more and boost themes and box appears on each of them

upgrade from 3.2.1

cron running every minute

disabled user tours with no change

did get the long list of errors down by disabling mail and messaging but still getting 22 get string related mail errors.

tried student view and could still see the undefined boxes.

enrolled a fake student and assigned to a course and logged in using it, the boxes still there.

tried opera browser no difference

tried chrome with no difference

And I never got these on 3.2.1 so seems to be related to 3.2.2

Re: Moodle 3.1.5 - Converting to utf8mb4 error

I'm having a different (but still related) issue with this new requirement.  All my manual Moodle upgrade installs on a shared host now halt as a result of a failed pre-check.  I do NOT have access to a CLI to update MySQL myself, where does that leave those of us who want to upgrade but are now stuck?  Note that if I use my hoster's Softaculous to install Moodle, I can update my server when the script is updated, but I want to be able to install updates on my terms.

Any insights?

Hi Everyone

I am very new to moodle and have just attempted to build a new moodle using the CLI. All seemed ok until I got to the dependencies check. Please see error attached. As I said I am very new to this so forgive me. Thank in advance for any help or guidance.

This sort of thing normally means you have two different versions of Moodle mixed up. It may be quickest to delete the Moodle code and replace with a fresh copy downloaded from moodle.org.

Hi.

I have completely restarted the upgrade process (2.4 to 2.7) and am getting this message from cron:

PHP Warning:  require(/home/sites/domainname.net/public_html/course27/version.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/domainname.net/public_html/course27/lib/classes/component.php on line 296

Would appreciate any help that can be given.

Moodle being routed via internet not intranet on LAN

by Maverick IT.

I have installed moodle but when accessing it on LAN , it is being routed via internet not intranet, hence the loading is slower. The moodle works amazing fast before publishing on internet( WAN IP, firewall) etc.. but the moodle gets slower once it is published on internet with public ip because even  on local network the moodle is being routed via internet...pls suggest.. i want the users to access moodle via intranet whn on  office LAN and have them access moodle on internet out of office..

Almost certainly a DNS issue. The hostname of your Moodle server must be resolving to the external address which will send it round through the router (you're actually lucky that works at all).

Most people run two DNS servers - an internal one and an external one. The internal one resolved the Moodle hostname to the internal IP and the external one the external IP (for the same hostname).

Clearly, this isn't entirely trivial.

This is a networking/DNS issue ... not a Moodle issue.

First ... what's in config.php for $CFG->wwwroot variable?

That fully qualified domain name must be in the INTERNAL DNS servers mapped to the internal private IP address ... and that same FQDN must be in EXTERNAL DNS only mapped to the external IP assigned to the server to allow external traffic on port 80 pass through the entities boundary firewall.

In addition, there could be firewall or inbound filtering/checking at play.   Talk to networking folks.

by David Dixon.

I am upgrading from Moodle 2.8 -> 3.2.1 on Linux redhat

I have upgraded PhP to 7.1.0 and PHPunit to 5.7.16

However no matter what I try  I keep getting the following when I run vendor/bin/phpunit

Moodle PHPUnit environment was initialised for different version, please use:

 php /var/www/html/hudson_moodle/admin/tool/phpunit/cli/init.php

Running the suggested script makes no difference.

Any suggestions hugely appreciated !

Installing Moodle on WordPress Locally

by Jishan Deir.

Hello all,

So I have installed WordPress and it works locally (using XAMPP). Now I tried placing Moodle in a different folder localhost/moodle/ and when I point my browser there all I get is the file list and not the Moodle installer. I plan to do this in a remote server but it seems I can't do it in the local one. Where have I done wrong?

Thanks!

Re: Moodle 3.0 with public ipv6 address

While I've never set up a Moodle using IPv6 IP only ...  ie, no ipV6 DNS entry for the Moodle ... do know that networking (operating system) comes before application (moodle).

Did do a google search which led to this page:

http://attrib.org/blog/how-enable-ipv6-your-site-debian-apache

Dunno if that will work for you or not because you've not shared any operating system info about your server.   Typically, on Linux, what one reads for Debian/Ubuntu, etc. could be applied to other Linux based servers ... but with adjustments.   Not that I would know how to on Debian/Ubuntu/or CentOS 6/7 ... cause like I said ... never done that with a Moodle.

So the define user admin page does not load?  Just a white screen?

Try going to your moodledata folder (NOT moodle code) and delete the cache and localcache folders - then refresh and see if you can continue...
