problems with Moodle 3.3
by Adriana Mallo.
We have installed Moodle 3. 3 in our university and we have been having lots of problems. Many actions have been deleted, some students have been deleted, some tasks were setn and disappeared later on.
One teacher sent us the foolowing notice that appeared to her: Warning Activity Deletion in progress ! Some grades are about to be removed.
She said that 100 students "disappeared" and students from previous years "appeared".
Can anybody help us? Does this have anything to do with this version of moodle? with installation?
We have been using different versions of Moodle for 16 years and never had this kind of problems.
Another question: isMoodle back up automatic? or it has to be set up?

Did you restore from a backup before trying the upgrade again? It's possible your database was partly upgraded and was corrupted.
Re: Coding error detected, it must be fixed by a programmer: The data source class does not exist.

No, when I go to 'Upgrade' on 'Installation' it does a back up then upgrades independently.
When I navigated at the top of the other text I sent it said:
'Error reading from database'

Could be any of those...what version of moodle, where are you hosted?
Re: Coding error detected, it must be fixed by a programmer: The data source class does not exist.

Is this one of those third-party upgrade scripts?
If it is, it's very difficult to comment (at moodle.org) didn't develop it. I know I keep saying this but don't use these installers/upgraders as we have no idea what they do and it's very hard to help you when they go wrong.
I would observe though - are you saying this is restoring your site to the state it was in before it all went wrong and then upgrading? I highly doubt it

Hi Marc,
what type of error your getting? can you please enable debug mode see error message?
if you have admin access you can able to install plugin from admin, but make sure plugin files permission is available in server.
if files is not readable you can't able to install plugin.
Thanks,

Hi,
It's the Moodle update, they just apply it for me.
I have backed up before each attempt to upgrade and I have to go back to the one I did a couple of days ago before I attempted to

This is my notifications page. I have tried to instal from here but it's a maze.

The problem is probably with this installer. Unfortunately we have no idea what these programs do to Moodle so it is impossible for us to help you trouble shoot.
At some point, for the long haul, you would be better to get rid of the installer and manually install Moodle. There is a bit of a learning curve but it is worth it in the long run.

Thanks, I need someone to take on sorting this immediate issue of upgrades out. Or, to take down my current version and reinstall the latest version. Do you know of anyone who can do this for me?
Re: Restore stops at upload with: "PHP is missing a temporary folder"

FOLLOW-UP
This problem returned after not having it for a month or so, and here's what fixed it this time.
It was the server. I went into the WHM part of cPanel and restarted this function:
PHP-FPM service for Apache
I found this solution by looking back through our service requests on our server provider, to see what they had done the last time.
At present, we are able to restore again without receiving an error message like "missing parameter" or "PHP is missing a folder." Those error messages apparently do not report the problem or point toward the solution.
It is possible that rebooting the server would also have fixed it. If the problem recurs, I'll try that.

I would speak to whoever provided that installer and ask them to sort it out for you.
Re: Can't install plugins
by Marc Joseph Montague.
Hi,We are running 3.2 at the moment. One of my goals in the coming weeks is to get it up to date to the current version. I think that issues may be hampered by the PHP version on the server though. The host site is still using 5.6.
Re: Can't install plugins
by Marc Joseph Montague.
Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I don't get any errors. I simply don't have the option available. Under the plugins, the first option is plugin overview. There is no install plugin option. I am the site's super admin but still don't get the option. This is why I'm thinking that this is a server side issue with the file being read only. Just not sure if I'm barking up the wrong tree as it were. The previous admin didn't leave me any info. I don't even have the hosting companies login information.
Thanks for helping out,
Marc
